Sixth Form - Introduction

Sixth Form pupils (Year 12 to start this academic year) will be part of the BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) initiative and will be required to bring a device of their choice (Microsoft Surface, Windows Laptop, Macbook, etc.) as part of their ‘required’ school supplies. This is not something new for Wycliffe pupils, as over the years many have always brought in a device of their choice. However, after seeing the benefits of pupils having a 1:1 device of their own inside and outside the classroom, we have decided to formalise this as part of a requirement for their studies here at Wycliffe and launch this formally alongside our 1:1 initiative for Years 9 to 11.

Our intent is that by not specifying the device for our Sixth Form pupils, they can make an independent choice of the device that would be most suitable for the course they have chosen for their A level studies at Wycliffe. Most importantly, in all pupils having access to the relevant ‘technology’ in and out of the classroom, regardless of the device, we can better ensure accessibility to the activities and assignments that our staff can offer as part of learning & teaching. We also recommend that you take out adequate insurance for security of the device to cover any breakage or in case it is lost or stolen. 

You do not have to purchase your device from a particular supplier. However, we do recommend that you purchase from a retailer that offers good warranty and insurance packages and have someone available to speak to face-to-face regarding any claims or repairs.
